SERIOUSLY IMPORTANT QUESTION

Jeapordy of my future is in your hands
If wrong advice is given
No, but really I need to know this...:
What is this stuff about them "downsizing" the air force I hear? What does this mean exactly, that they are kcking the soldiers OUT? Can they even DO that? I was planning on joining this year. Should I pick another branch? Can someone tell me about this, and anything that they've heard about it?
I've heard before that the Air Force branch of the military is the most filled (albeit the best). If this is true, I'm not gonna want to enter, and would rather prefer a smaller one. Does it even matter at all, or is there even a real major difference at where you are stationed (I know the Navy you are on a ship and everything...) All I want is some benefits and a chance to serve my country. The army may be in consideration now, due to my hearing of the stuff I just asked about above.
Is there a major difference in the consideration of which branch you should choose in relation to the job you want to have??
The Air Force is downsizing. They are cutting officers, and reducing some career fields. But, fret not. They will not let someone NEW into a field they are cutting. IF you join today, chances are you'll serve your full (4/6) years, more if you reenlist, short of disciplinary problems. As for "most filled" They fill their recruitment quotas more often, but are not the largest branch. If I remember correctly, the Army, Navy, Air Force, then Marines, for order of largest to smallest. I do not know where the coast guard fits in there, but I Would assume on one side of the marines would be accurate. Which side, I do not rightly know. Don't let their cutting keep you from joining the service you want. If you really want assurances, ask your recruiter about "critically manned career fields." Those are the fields in the Air Force that are under staffed. Some of the ones he will share with you might be undesirable(I don't know your preference), such as EOD, TacP, Para-rescue, and the like, but others are different. Linguist and Airborn Linguist, (crypto-linguist), and some other fields in intel and other places. Those have the best chance of you staying in that field--But, be warned. When you join a critically manned career field you can only cross-train into a MORE critically manned field. IE: It takes a lot more work to change career fields. There are, of course, exceptions, and I'm working off of my limited knowledge, but that is my understanding.
Hope that helps.
This information was VERY helpful for me and now I have a better understanding of what's going on.
Appreciate it =)
stick with the air force.

Re: oh wow
If they are downsizing wouldn't I just be bribed into going into the army anyway?
